Elements of Digital Transfer

Let’s talk a little bit about file transfer…we need to receive your files in certain ways to make the process of production run smoothly.

Documents

  • We recommend files be provided in InDesign, Quark and/or press-ready PDF formats.  We work on both MAC and PC platforms.  (Files from Microsoft Publisher, Word and other similar programs can produce mixed results. These generally require additional preflight/creative time.)
  • Large files should be compressed with StuffIt or WinZip.
  • When creating page layout documents, it is best to link files rather than embedding them.
  • With any page layout file, we will also need files for fonts and all linked images. (InDesign gathers all of these for you in File/Package.)
  • Files may be uploaded in the Client Lounge.

Images

  • Photographs should be CMYK or grayscale images (not RGB).
  • We recommend .TIF format for all images.
  • Photographs should be 300 dpi or higher, at 100% of the size they will appear.
  • Vector graphics (line art, logos, etc.) should be in .EPS or .AI format.
  • Duotones must be saved in .EPS or .PSD format.

Fonts
When sending fonts, both parts of the font are required. In Mac format, both screen and printer fonts of a typeface are required. In PC format, both .pfm and .pfb files are required. If we substitute our versions of fonts, undesirable changes to the layout may occur.

LET US ADVISE YOU.
All projects received are pre-flighted by our creative team before going into production.  If you have questions about file formats, or the file transfer procedure, let us know. We want your project to appear as you expect, and we are happy to work with your designer or take your design to a new level with Phillips Creative Services. Communicating early in the project’s design will ensure that the entire production process will go smoothly.
